Every 60-minute session pairs one surf skill with one life skill. Your child doesn't just learn to surf — they build who they are.

Founder
Meet the Founder
Nate Shinn founded Surf Strong Academy with one mission: to give Carlsbad kids a safe, structured, and genuinely fun path into surfing. A competitive surfer and sponsored athlete who grew up in the water in Southern California, Nate built a team of trained instructors who all coach the Surf Strong way.
CPR/First Aid certified and Lifeguard Certified through the American Red Cross (ARC).
Surfing is one of the best tools for building character in young people. Every wipeout is a lesson in getting back up. Every wave ridden is a moment of real confidence.
